1978; ink

In this depiction of Sector 4 Joint Ops Centre in Nicosia, endearingly known as “Wolseley Barracks”, Shipley included features familiar to Canadians who deployed under UNFICYP: the sign on the farther lawn and the two memorials situated in foreplan. The smaller one, with two UN helmets, was erected to commemorate Captain Ian Patten and Private Steven Kohlman, who lost their lives during SNOWGOOSE rotation 13, in 1975. The memorial service at the unveiling of this monument is depicted in a photograph belonging to Brigadier General Philip Spencer, at the time, Lieutenant Colonel commanding 1RCR.
